How will you make an impact in this role? The Colleague Services (CS) and Colleague Product Management (CPM) organisation, part of the Colleague Experience Group (CEG), also known as Human Resources, plays a pivotal role in delivering best-in-class services, capabilities, products, and tools that power an exceptional colleague experience at American Express. This organisation designs, builds, and continuously evolves the products and services that enable both the CEG and the wider enterprise to operate effectively and efficiently.
Within CPM, the Systems Management team oversees the end-to-end ecosystem of CEG products, capabilities, processes, platforms, and applications including partnerships with third parties while ensuring strong adherence to colleague-related risk compliance and governance standards. The Colleague Business Architecture team provides strategic insight into how CEG's business processes are enabled and optimised through technology. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to a high-performing business architecture function driving alignment between strategic intent and operational execution to deliver on the CEG strategy.
As an Associate Digital Product Solution Design, the successful candidate will support the Manager Digital Product Solution Design in translating business needs into clear technology-enabled solutions that improve colleague experience and operational efficiency. You will help document current-state processes and systems, contribute to solution design and delivery activities, and maintain high-quality artefacts that align with enterprise standards, risk, and governance. Partnering closely with Technology and Product teams, you will lead the creation and continuous refinement of business architecture artefacts, define and embed cross-functional ways of working, and shape solutions to complex enterprise-scale challenges spanning domains such as Colleague Servicing, Recruitment, and Payroll. The Associate will operate as part of a globally dispersed team in a hybrid role reporting into the Manager Digital Product Solution Design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Manager in analysing and documenting CEG business processes, system flows, and colleague journey maps to clarify how digital tools enable HR operations and experiences.
- Assist with solution design by translating business requirements into structured functional/process documentation in partnership with Product, Technology, and Business stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate living artefacts (e.g. capability models, process maps, system inventories) ensuring they reflect current state and are easy to consume.
- Contribute to governance and compliance activities helping prepare materials for standards adherence, control testing, and risk assessments (e.g. PRSA, RCSA).
- Support application ecosystem visibility, gathering data and preparing reports on platform health, performance, and integration points.
- Coordinate workshops and design sessions capturing requirements, decisions, and actions; track follow-ups to drive progress.
- Assist with change execution including requirement traceability, user acceptance, support, comms-ready documentation, and adoption materials.
- Participate in ideation and continuous improvement using colleague feedback and data insights to identify simplification and automation opportunities.
- Align work with enterprise priorities ensuring outputs follow established standards, design guidelines, and risk posture.
- Develop foundational expertise in digital product lifecycle and business architecture methods under the guidance of the Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Foundational knowledge of process mapping, requirements gathering, and user journey documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable working with data to generate insights and recommendations.
- Clear, concise written and verbal communication; confident collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and organised with accountability for accurate documentation and timely deliverables.
- Learning mindset with curiosity about HR technology, product management, and business architecture.
- Familiarity with HR platforms or enterprise systems is a plus.
- Awareness of risk control and governance concepts; interest in how they shape sustainable product design.
- Comfortable in agile/iterative delivery environments.
