Job Description

The Verification Engineer is responsible for performing Verification Scheme Reviews, Performance Standard Reviews and onshore examinations for installations subject to The Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive)(Safety Case etc) Regulations 2015, 2013 EU Offshore Safety Directive or applicable national regulations. Required to work both independently and as part of a team and travel internationally when necessary. To operate and assist in development of ABS’s internal reporting and tracking tools to report upon offshore and onshore verification activities, as well as regularly meet with Duty Holders to assist in the development and improvement of their verification schemes to assist Duty Holders in achieving their safety and environmental performance objectives. Additionally, required to facilitate and assist in the development and improvement of ABS’s processes regarding verification.

Job Description

The Verification Engineer is responsible for performing Verification Scheme Reviews, Performance Standard Reviews and onshore examinations for installations subject to The Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive)(Safety Case etc) Regulations 2015, 2013 EU Offshore Safety Directive or applicable national regulations. Required to work both independently and as part of a team and travel internationally when necessary. To operate and assist in development of ABS’s internal reporting and tracking tools to report upon offshore and onshore verification activities, as well as regularly meet with Duty Holders to assist in the development and improvement of their verification schemes to assist Duty Holders in achieving their safety and environmental performance objectives. Additionally, required to facilitate and assist in the development and improvement of ABS’s processes regarding verification.

What You Will Do:

  • Acts as ABS’s professional specialist for the organization in its verification activities.
  • Performs routine verification examinations on units for which ABS is the Independent Verification Body.
  • Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of verification examinations.
  • Regularly engages in contact with clients to resolve problems and assist in the development of verification schemes.
  • Maintains verification files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in area of responsibility.
  • Attend meetings as ABS’s representative with industry, such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) / Offshore Safety Directive Regulator (OSDR), Step Change-in Safety, International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), etc., as applicable.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

  • HNC / HND / Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent recognized experience
  • Membership of recognized Professional Institution or Engineering Council preferred
  • Demonstrable experience in similar position or within a verification type role is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of statutory certification and services and, before assignment, with their future work
  • BOSIET, MIST, and ATEX qualifications preferably

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Robust understanding of The Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive)(Safety Case etc) Regulations, 2013/30/EU Offshore Safety Directive, and associated legislation.
  • Knowledge of goal-setting legislative regimes, major hazard management and appreciation of risk assessment techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of unit-specific major accident hazards, safety and environmental critical element performance standards and verification activities.
  • Aware of and have an understanding of main plant isolatable inventories; incident escalation pathways; and prevention, control and mitigation barriers
  • Awareness of process safety and integrity management principles, engineering standards and specifications
  • Relevant plant knowledge, understanding of operational status / plant conditions and suitable experience
  • Able to apply Operational Risk Assessments (ORA) processes and methodology
  • Understanding of SECE impairment rule sets
  • Understanding of specific site emergency response plans and procedures
  • Aware of the suitability and limitations of Operational Risk Assessments (ORA) process.
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
  • Ability to read engineering plans and have a basic understanding of oil and gas practices and installation operations.
  • Ability to perform examinations in the prescribed format.
  • Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
  • Knowledge of installation systems and machinery.
  • Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise.
