The Box Encapsulation Plant project is one of the most important construction projects at the Sellafield Site, the plant will play a vital role in Sellafield’s 100-year clean-up programme by taking nuclear waste recovered from the site's original waste plants and encasing it in concrete so it can be stored in a modern building. The plant is primarily designed to deal with waste from the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo, one of four legacy waste plants prioritised for clean-up by Sellafield Ltd’s owner, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). Alongside that work, the plant will also receive certain wastes from the other three legacy waste stores, the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond, the Pile Fuel Storage Pond, and Pile Fuel Cladding Silo.
The BEP Joint Venture project will safely design and deliver a Plant and the works in accordance with the requirements of the contract to enable conditioning of wastes from the various donor plants, carried out in line with the Employer’s needs and to the satisfaction of stakeholders in the Box Encapsulation Project (BEP).
About the Opportunity Roles & Responsibilities:
- To produce a suite of compliant, professionally produced working level Operation, Maintenance (O&M) and emergency instructions within defined time frames.
- Develop Risk Assessment requirements in support of Working Level Instructions.
- Interrogating engineering/design and vendor information to produce the Volume C Documents.
- Carrying out on plant validation, and post validation/red pen changes of the working level instructions.
- Manage communication between stakeholders and support plant walk downs to enable Site familiarisation.
- Reporting directly to the Pre-Operations Manager.
- Providing weekly progress updates.
- Attending progress meetings.
- Ensuring Safety is the highest priority on the project, with a continued strive towards Zero Harm.
- Ensuring quality standards, and consistency are applied throughout the range of documentation being produced.
Essential Experience & Qualifications:
- Nuclear background.
- Minimum HNC in an appropriate discipline. (Mech or Elec).
- Previous Technical Author experience (not necessary).
- The ability to obtain SC is essential for this role.
This is a fixed term contract initially until March 2027 but with scope for a permanent role.
