About the Opportunity

Amentum is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Piping Engineer to join our Energy business. The department supports the UK nuclear fleet and new small modular reactor developers, working on projects related to New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling within the nuclear sector. The successful candidate should be highly motivated, proactive, and eager to develop their technical skills. Key to success will be your people skills, building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple locations. This role requires experience in pipe engineering within civil, nuclear, or other highly regulated industries, with familiarity in regulated environments and delivering work to high HSSE standards. The role involves reviewing design and substantiation, producing calculations and reports, providing technical advice, and supporting refurbishment/modification projects to extend plant and equipment life. Collaboration with other engineering departments to ensure consistency in pipe simulations is essential. You will deliver complex engineering solutions on projects of varying sizes. The position is based at one of our Energy offices (Newcastle, Warrington, Gloucester, Bristol, or Knutsford), with flexible working options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within project delivery teams across the project lifecycle from bid generation through to installation and commissioning.
  • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams on high-profile projects.
  • Own technical challenges, develop strategies, and engage stakeholders to implement solutions.
  • Produce and review design deliverables such as assumptions, specifications, calculations, and reports.
  • Apply standards and regulations in engineering design and compliance.
  • Simplify complex problems and foster valuable relationships.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree qualified Mechanical engineer or equivalent through experience.
  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status with IMechE or similar.
  • Knowledge of standards and regulations related to mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in Pressure Vessels, Pipework (ASME code), lifting and crane codes.
  • Knowledge of piping simulation software (Caesar II or AutoPIPE) is an advantage; training will be provided.
  • Understanding of Civil nuclear plant systems and design guidelines is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, innovative, and problem-solving skills.
