About the Opportunity

Amentum is a key delivery partner within the Decommissioning and Nuclear Waste Partners (DNWP) Framework, a major Sellafield programme worth up to £4.6 billion and running for up to 15 years. The framework is focused on safely accelerating decommissioning, remediation and high hazard risk reduction across one of the most complex nuclear sites in the world. Our nuclear team supports the front end design, engineering, technical leadership and delivery expertise required across the DNWP portfolio. We are looking for individuals with high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors who can work collaboratively, embrace new challenges and contribute to the mission of safely and efficiently delivering Sellafield’s decommissioning and nuclear waste objectives.

Role Purpose

As a Package Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of project packages, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, safety, and quality standards are met across stakeholders and teams. You will report directly into the Delivery Manager or Framework Manager and conduct work alongside Delivery Leads, Package Managers, Engineers and with support from Administrators. Employee will be expected to contribute to the delivery of social value in line with the DNWP framework, supporting positive outcomes for local communities. Voluntary engagement is supported, with up to 16 hours per full time equivalent allocated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and coordinating all phases of identified package of works, including project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closeout.
  • Establishing project objectives, scope and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders and ensuring alignment with client requirements.
  • Developing and managing project schedules, and resource allocations to ensure timely delivery.
  • Liaising with support functions and subcontractors to monitor progress, resolve issues and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Managing procurement processes, including bid evaluations, contract negotiations and vendor selection.
  • Support project budgeting and cost control and manage change orders to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Conducting regular site inspections to assess project progress, identify risks, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Use established procedures to solve problems and suggest pragmatic solutions.
  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and stakeholders to provide project updates, communicate address concerns and foster strong working relationships.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations and procurement strategies.
  • Coordinate and oversee scheduled activities, ensuring adherence to project schedules and specifications.
  • Evaluate and select contractors and subcontractors based on qualifications, experience and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on project status to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and legal requirements, prioritising a safe working environment for all involved.
  • Manage project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings and change orders.
  • Conduct regular meetings to facilitate communication, address challenges and to meet project objectives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on project status, including milestones, budget updates, and any significant developments or risks via OPR’s.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.
  • Carry out thorough project evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary corrective measures.
  • Provide guidance to the project team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • HND or equivalent Level 5 qualification in relevant discipline, e.g. mechanical, electrical, construction.
  • Experienced working within multi-discipline engineering / construction projects and tasks within a highly regulated industry.
  • Previously responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of project packages, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, safety, and quality standards are met across stakeholders and teams.
  • Possesses a good theoretical understanding of engineering principles and technologies.
  • Have previous experience using evidence-based approaches to solve engineering problems and support continuous improvement.
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding sufficient to apply established engineering methods safely and effectively in practice.
  • Experienced in planning and coordinating work and resources for engineering tasks / projects.
  • Managed or contributed to budgets, scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Able to communicate engineering information effectively at all levels and present and justify technical proposals and decisions clearly.
