About the Opportunity - PSA Nuclear Safety Case Engineer โ All Levels (Multiple Locations)

Our Safety Case Engineers are at the forefront of ground-breaking projects, working hand-in-hand across the civil nuclear and defence sectors, both in the UK and on a global stage. From next-generation systems and emerging reactor technologies, like SMRs, to ensuring the safe operation of existing nuclear facilities, we cover the full spectrum of the nuclear lifecycle.
The role of a PSA Nuclear Safety Case Engineer is pivotal. Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) forms the backbone of the safety case, demonstrating that risks are maintained at acceptably low levels. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and maintaining nuclear reactors and facilities, optimising safety and reducing risks. Your work will involve crafting and delivering PSA models, delving into data analysis, supporting key decisions on facility design and operations, and presenting your findings through top-tier technical reports.
We are excited to hear from professionals with expertise in the application of PSA related techniques in any of the following areas:
- Fault and event tree analysis
- Quantified risk and reliability assessments
- Reliability data assessment
- Hazard identification assessments
- Internal and external hazard evaluation, including dedicated Hazard PSA assessments, seismic, fire, and flood
- Statistical risk modelling
- System dependency analysis
The key responsibilities for this role are:
- Lead the development and implementation of PSA for major nuclear projects
- Perform independent safety assurance reviews
- Work closely with clients to manage PSA model implementation and develop effective safety cases and risk management plans
- Liaising with clients to understand their challenges and developing solutions
- Representing the business in technical meetings with clients, regulators, and other third parties
- Helping to maintain the technical capability/knowledge of the community and mentoring junior team members (as appropriate)
Hereโs What Youโll Need:
- A good understanding of PSA principles and experience developing and updating PSA models
- Expertise in the use of PSA tools (Reliability workbench and RiskMonitor)
- Knowledge of ONR and international nuclear standards
- Good communication skills and ability to articulate information to a broad range of stakeholders
- Experience of delivering project tasks against relevant standards and best practices
- A degree (or equivalent demonstrable experience) in a STEM discipline
- Chartered Member of a professional institute (or equivalent demonstrable experience) or working towards either Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional body
