Amentum is Lot 1 delivery partner within the Decommissioning and Nuclear Waste Partners (DNWP) Framework, a major Sellafield programme worth up to £4.6 billion and running for up to 15 years. The framework is focused on safely accelerating decommissioning, remediation and high‐hazard risk reduction across one of the most complex nuclear sites in the world.
Our nuclear team supports the front‐end design, engineering, technical leadership and delivery expertise required across the DNWP portfolio. We are looking for individuals with high‐value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors who can work collaboratively, embrace new challenges and contribute to the mission of safely and efficiently delivering Sellafield's decommissioning and nuclear waste objectives.
About the Opportunity
The Risk Practitioner is responsible for supporting the identification, assessment, management, and reporting of risks and opportunities across projects and operations within a highly regulated nuclear environment. The role ensures that risk management activities are embedded, consistent, and compliant with nuclear governance, safety, and assurance requirements, enabling informed decision‐making and successful delivery of programmes.
Employee will be expected to contribute to the delivery of social value in line with the DNWP framework, supporting positive outcomes for local communities. Voluntary engagement is supported, with up to 16 hours per full‐time equivalent allocated.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of effective risk management processes in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate risk identification workshops and engage with project teams to capture risks and opportunities.
- Develop and maintain project risk registers, ensuring risks are clearly defined, assessed, owned, and regularly reviewed.
- Apply Risk Assessment and Evaluation Techniques, Designing and Implementing Risk Responses, Monitoring Risk Effectively.
- Support the production of risk reports, dashboards, and summaries for project teams, senior management, and governance forums.
- Promote a consistent approach to risk management across programmes and functions.
- Monitor risk mitigation actions and challenge progress to ensure risks are being actively managed.
- Provide guidance and coaching to project teams on risk management best practice.
- Liaise with planning, cost, commercial, assurance, and safety teams to ensure alignment of risk, schedule, and cost information.
- Ensure risk management activities comply with nuclear safety, security, and quality standards.
- Support audits, reviews, and regulatory interactions in relation to risk management.
- Maintain accurate and traceable risk documentation in line with information management requirements.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum Level 6 IRM Certificate or equivalent along with experience working within a risk role in a highly regulated industry.
- Membership with Institute of Risk Management or Equivalent Professional Membership.
- Working knowledge of risk management frameworks and standards within a regulated environment.
- Demonstrable experience developing and maintaining risk registers and applying risk assessment techniques.
- Proven ability to develop and implement proportionate risk responses and monitor risks effectively across project or operational settings.
- Understanding of nuclear industry regulatory requirements and the impact of external factors (e.g. regulatory, economic, and emerging risks).
- Experience supporting integration of risk management into governance, decision‐making, and organisational processes, promoting a strong safety and risk culture.
- Capability in risk model development and risk analysis, including cost and schedule risk assessment using industry standard risk applications.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret risk data and present clear, concise reports to stakeholders.
- Experience supporting or facilitating risk workshops.
- Ability to obtain Sellafield SC level of security clearance and P4 pass.
