About the Opportunity

Within our progressive Geospatial team, we are seeking an experienced Earth Observation (EO) specialist who is confident in leading the technical direction of EO tasks and projects, ideally drawing on existing experience within the environmental sector – although other applicants from other sectors are encouraged to apply. You will support and lead tasks relating to EO collection, analysis and overall data management as well as supporting the Geospatial team and wider Amentum groups with our EO strategy.

You will be working with a range of data capture, analysis and visualisation technologies to support our organisation’s objectives and client challenges. With exposure to an expanding range of market sectors; you will deliver dynamic, innovative solutions to internal and external clients.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting technical leadership for Earth Observation and remote sensing work.
  • Developing data workflows to transform raw EO data into actionable insights.
  • Collaboration with team members to deliver and expand capabilities.
  • Developing innovative solutions to solve client challenges.
  • Supporting internal innovation programmes as well as external client engagement.
  • Mentoring other members of the Geospatial team.
  • Maintaining our high standards of accuracy and integrity.
  • Ensuring technical quality for all EO outputs and pipelines.
  • Staying up to date with latest EO/ remote sensing trends and technology.

Skills and Requirements:

  • An advanced degree in Remote Sensing, Geography, GIS, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science or a related field (2:1 minimum).
  • Professional experience developing workflows harnessing commercial and open-source EO data and understanding of end‑user licence agreements.
  • Detailed understanding of EO opportunities, pitfalls and applications for scalable and viable solutions.
  • Technical delivery of developing pixel and/or object‑based classification techniques using EO imagery.
  • Familiarity with both optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and other sensors (if applicable) to harness data fusion across Amentum key sectors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, building strong relationships based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Driven and motivated to succeed, with a high level of personal accountability.

Desirable:

  • Experience with programming such as Python for processing data and automating workflows.
  • A background in the use of GIS software, ideally ESRI product suite.
