About IA&R Independent Assurance and Regulation (IA&R) aim to provide world leading consultancy services across highly regulated industries. About the Role
Come and join IA&R’s Leadership Team and take on a key role in defining and shaping the Technical Capabilities (Science, Engineering or Project Management) across IA&R. The Head of Capability is responsible for leading and delivering the Technical Capability strategy across IA&R, ensuring expertise, standards, and resources effectively support operational delivery, customer requirements, and business growth.
Reporting to the Director of Technical Capability, the role drives the development and maturity of the Technical Capability Centre of Excellence (COE), ensuring capability, governance, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement are embedded across the organisation. The role is accountable for maintaining Technical Capability, supporting workforce development, and ensuring resources are prioritised and effectively deployed across service delivery and growth activities.
What you will be doing
- Technical Capability Strategy & Capability Delivery
- Create, maintain, and deliver the Technical Capability strategy aligned to IA&R objectives.
- Ensure Technical Capability effectively supports service delivery and growth activities.
- Communicate and embed the Technical Capability vision and capability priorities across teams.
- Centre of Excellence Approach
- Establish and maintain the Technical Capability Centre of Excellence (COE) across discipline areas.
- Drive Technical Capability standards, governance, frameworks, tools, and best practice across IA&R.
- Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and consistency across Technical Capability teams.
- Workforce Capability & Development
- Build and sustain Technical Capability through onboarding, development, coaching, and continuous learning initiatives.
- Ensure Technical Capability teams are suitably qualified and experienced to meet current and future organisational needs.
- Support workforce planning, succession planning, and capability health activities.
- Operational Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Lead improvements in Technical Capability performance, efficiency, collaboration, innovation, and simplification.
- Monitor Technical Capability effectiveness and implement improvement initiatives where required.
- Support operational excellence through effective governance and performance management practices.
- Leadership, Governance & Business Integration
- Provide leadership and direction to Technical Capability leaders and managers.
- Represent Technical Capability across operational and leadership activities within IA&R.
- Ensure compliance with quality, security, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Work collaboratively across Capability, Growth, Delivery, and Organisation & People functions to support integrated business performance.
Here’s What You’ll Need
- Masters degree (Level 7 or equivalent) in relevant business subject.
- Membership of a professional institution is desirable (Leadership).
- Technical Leadership - Ability to lead across Engineering, Science or project management disciplines within a complex, regulated, or consultancy-based environment.
- Centre of Excellence Leadership - Capability to establish and maintain a Centre of Excellence that drives standards, governance, best practice, and capability maturity.
- Capability Development & Resource Leadership - Strong understanding of workforce capability and resource deployment.
- Operational Delivery & Continuous Improvement - Ability to align with operational and growth delivery requirements while driving continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Technical Influence - Strong ability to collaborate and influence across operational, capability and leadership teams.
This role will require security clearance; therefore applicants should hold or be able to obtain security clearance in the UK.
