About The Opportunity

Amentum provides client-oriented solutions across our environment, energy, and defence businesses. With a strong order book and a diverse, exciting portfolio of projects across the UK and internationally, we need to expand our team of environmental specialists across multiple disciplines required to deliver a project lifecycle - from new build and operations through to decommissioning and site end use. We offer opportunities for significant career advancement, attractive remuneration, and flexible working, as well as leadership and client relationship role development. We are seeking a desk- and site-based Consultant with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) expertise to support project operations across our nuclear, environment, energy, and defence businesses. You will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects, including tasks related to writing scoping reports and environmental statements. Candidates with a regulatory background in reviewing EIAs are also encouraged to apply. This role can be based in Harwell, Rotherham, Cumbria or Birchwood.

Key Responsibilities

  • EIA & DCO Delivery: Support delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments and Development Consent Order projects, collaborating with project teams throughout scoping, data collection, analysis, and final reporting.
  • Scoping & Environmental Statements: Support the production of screening and scoping reports to support planning applications, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Methodological Innovation: Help develop a reputation within the nuclear industry by creating and applying innovative methods of impact assessment for terrestrial, marine, coastal, and ecological environments.
  • Digital EIA & Data Management: Support the development of our Digital EIA toolkit. Use datasets such as COPERNICUS, CEFAS, MMO, MAGIC, and SDG to enhance project outputs.
  • Field Work & Client Liaison: Conduct site visits, support ecological surveys, and liaise with client project managers. Provide clear communication on project progress, findings, and next steps.

Here's What You'll Need

Below are the qualifications and experience that we’re seeking in applicants. We understand that not everyone will meet every single requirement, so if you believe you have most of the relevant experience and strong potential to succeed in this role, we’d love to hear from you.

  • EIA Experience: At least one year of experience supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments, including a focus on marine impacts (distinct advantage).
  • Technical Background: Bachelor’s degree in marine sciences, environmental sciences, botany, zoology, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Environmental Statements & Planning Consents: Demonstrable experience in supporting environmental statements and planning consents.
  • GIS & Data Management: Familiarity with GIS packages, strong data management skills, and the ability to analyse and report spatial data effectively.
  • Additional Knowledge: Awareness of at least one of the following: air quality management, noise abatement policy/legislation, or dispersion modelling methodologies for terrestrial and/or marine environments.
  • Communication & Problem-Solving: Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel (including potential overseas trips) to support client and project requirements.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to deepen their skills in environmental impact assessment within the nuclear and other high-hazard industrial sectors. If you have the enthusiasm, technical aptitude, and desire to work on complex, impactful projects, we invite you to join our growing team.
