About the Opportunity: Amentum is currently seeking an experienced High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer experienced in supporting Linux environments to work supporting a High‑Performance Computing environment. You will be a key contributor in supporting and evolving our high‑performance computing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide ongoing support for RHEL Linux systems and applications.
- Diagnose and repair physical faults and issues within these systems, such as corrupt disks or failing components.
- Troubleshoot software/OS problems within the systems and applications, and either implement a fix or inform the end user on how to proceed.
- Investigate and implement requests for change (e.g., new software or configuration changes).
- Ensure that any applications and/or codes run on these systems do not pose a security threat to the system.
- Monitor the performance/usage of the systems by creating automated scripts and utilising a separate monitoring server; create comprehensive reports with this information.
- Write and update documentation for end users and system administrators.
- Assist in the design and implementation of new HPC systems.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
- At least 3 years’ experience working on Linux IT related systems.
- Knowledge of Linux system administration.
- Familiarity with at least one scripting language (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Interest in high‑performance computing and willingness to learn Slurm, xCAT, and Ansible.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently with mentorship and as part of a team.
- Sole UK National status due to Role and Client requirement.
- Ability to attain UKSV Security Clearance.
- Ability to work on site 5 days a week. No hybrid/remote working option.
- Internship or academic experience in a research computing or HPC environment.
- Exposure to job schedulers (e.g., Slurm, LSF).
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Coursework or projects involving distributed systems, networking, or parallel computing.
- Understanding of basic cybersecurity concepts.
