About the Opportunity: We employ the UK's most experienced and skilled technical services professionals and have grown to over 8,000 people in locations across the UK. Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years. HPC's two EPR reactors will be capable of generating 3.26GW of secure, low carbon electricity for 60 years, enough electricity to power around 6 million homes. In addition to the project's clean energy benefits, HPC will create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.

The Mechanical Review and Acceptance Engineer, reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer, contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the Equipment scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings. The role will be focused on the Turnkey discipline dealing with various Turnkey contractors delivering in both NI and CI-BOP areas but will interface with other disciplines and several parties, such as the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Requests, and Exemption Requests originating from the Turnkey Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
  • Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
  • Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
  • Assist in co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
  • Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
  • Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer).
  • Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction/installation industry.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
  • Experience in the understanding of welding engineering.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
