About the Opportunity: We are currently recruiting for a Lead Technical Safety Consultant to join our team. The post will reside within the Independent Advice and Assurance Directorate, situated within Amentum's Assurance, Technology and Regulation (AT&R) Division Unit. AT&R aim to provide world-class consultancy services across highly regulated industries. Organised to be independent and free from conflict of interest, AT&R provide a range of trusted, evidence‐based support services to ensure that systems, technologies, and processes are safe, effective, compliant, and future‐ready, across 3 main areas:
- Independent Assurance – We provide risk-based, proportionate, independent oversight and assurance of whether a project, process, system or product meets defined standards, requirements, or expectations.
- Research & Technology – We identify, define and execute programmes of Research and Technology to support the continued safe operation of some of the world's most complex engineering challenges, including the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme.
- Independent Regulatory Support – A ring-fenced and independent organisation that supports regulators with assessments, audits, and guidance development.
In line with our strategy to grow into new industries, locations and technologies, we are seeking to expand our Defence portfolio into other safety critical areas beyond nuclear safety.
As a Lead Technical Safety Consultant, you will be responsible for:
- Developing the Independent Advice and Assurance Technical Safety business line beyond nuclear safety.
- Leading a team of technical safety consultants to deliver high‐quality outputs to meet client requirements.
- Contributing to the development of a functional strategy across the wider Energy and Environment – International (E&E‐I) business within Amentum.
- Leading project teams to plan, develop and execute proposals to achieve milestones and objectives, and meet client requirements.
- Providing high quality reports and artefacts in support of client tasks.
- Providing authoritative advice on technical safety regulations and their application to develop compliant solutions.
- Acting as a technical safety subject matter expert in at least one domain (e.g. Land, Maritime, Air or Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives).
- Maintaining and upholding the Amentum culture, codes of conduct and safety standards.
This will be a leadership role with line management responsibility. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold leadership behaviours and deliver their role in line with the organisations health, safety, environment, security and quality expectations.
Here's what you'll need: The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset, with a proven ability to deliver high‐quality work in a multi‐disciplinary and fast‐paced environment.
Essential criteria:
- Degree level qualification (RQF/CQFW Level 6), preferably Masters level (RQF/CQFW Level 7), in an appropriate technical discipline.
