Amentum is currently recruiting for a Principal Fire Engineer to join our Energy business. The department is entering an exciting phase of opportunity by supporting our key client's UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation, and by supporting new small modular reactor developers. Our work is varied, covering New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, and our capabilities are in demand across the nuclear sector. This role will be based at one of our Energy offices (Newcastle, Glasgow, Warrington, Gloucester, Bristol or Knutsford). We put flexibility at the heart of what we do and we're happy to consider flexible working patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Development of fire safety strategies to support compliance with the Building Regulations and relevant fire safety legislation. This includes the development of design solutions encompassing provisions for means and escape, detection and alarm, structural fire protection, suppression, and firefighting access/facilities for the fire and rescue service in accordance with recognised prescriptive good practice and/or fire engineering principles.
  • Undertaking conventional fire assessments / fire risk assessments to support compliance with fire safety legislation and/or the development of fire safety strategies, and to support ALARP demonstrations where non-compliances exist.
  • Undertaking fire modelling with the use of empirical hand calculations and software packages such as CFAST and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics in support of fire safety strategies.
