Base pay range

As a SEN Teacher you\’ll work with children and young people who need extra support, or require an advanced programme of learning, in order to reach their full educational potential. We ask all our staff to have high aspirations for all of our children and young people. This post will involve you working with children that are transitioning into the school or had transitioned but due to complexities the process has had to be restarted as the child is not classroom ready.

Haywards Farm School is a small, outstanding independent school in West Berkshire, catering to 34 students with a range of special educational needs, including learning difficulties, social and emotional challenges, and autistic spectrum disorders. Many students have a history of non-attendance and require support to successfully transition into the school environment.

Main duties of the role:

  • Plan and implement effective lessons that allow all students to learn well; developing and consolidating their knowledge, understanding and skills, working collaboratively with other staff where required.
  • Take lead responsibility for an area of the curriculum within a school, supporting the SLT in curriculum design and qualifications and the line management of staff in your curriculum area.
  • Embed the teaching of reading, writing and communication, throughout the curriculum.
  • Maintain and use secure knowledge and shared pedagogy and understanding of the subjects taught to plan learning that sustains students’ interest and challenges their thinking.
  • Organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings or sporting events.
  • Work in accordance with Amegreen’s assessment policy to use prior assessment data and regular assessment information to set appropriate and demanding expectations for pupils\’ learning, motivation and presentation of work.
  • Undertake a range of assessment, reporting and recording tasks as agreed in Amegreen’s policy in a timely and professional manner including the maintenance of accurate records of students’ work.
