About the role

We’re looking for an experienced tutor to lead our City & Guilds Employability Skills programme, helping young people develop skills for further education, training, employment and adult life.

You’ll plan, deliver and develop practical learning, manage portfolios and assessment, and help learners work towards recognised qualifications.

Our learners have special educational needs (SEN) and/or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You’ll adapt learning to their abilities and goals, linking sessions to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes where appropriate.

Sessions are mainly one to one or in small groups, typically with no more than five learners per staff member. You’ll work in farm and outdoor environments alongside Learning Mentors and colleagues.

About Stable Futures

Stable Futures is a therapeutic alternative provision and part of Amegreen Children’s Services. Across our Farm and Paddock forest provision, we combine practical education, outdoor learning, animal-assisted interventions and personal development.

We support young people who face barriers to traditional education, putting their needs, emotional wellbeing and future goals at the centre of learning.

Planning and delivering the programme

You’ll deliver the programme at appropriate Entry Levels, helping learners achieve individual units and qualifications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering employability and vocational sessions around learners’ needs, abilities and personal development targets.
  • Linking learning to EHCP outcomes and progression goals where appropriate.
  • Using learners’ interests and practical activities across the provision to build engagement and develop skills.
  • Reviewing progress, identifying barriers and adjusting plans or support when needed.
  • Helping learners understand what they are working towards and recognise their achievements.
  • Contributing to reports, reviews and professional meetings, sharing clear information about learning, engagement and next steps.

You’ll use site-based activities to support learning, which may include animal care, horticulture, cooking, outdoor activities and creative projects.

Qualifications, assessment and records

You’ll manage learner portfolios and gather appropriate evidence of skills and achievement. This includes keeping accurate records of registration, progress, assessment and accreditation, and making sure delivery and assessment follow City & Guilds requirements and internal quality assurance processes.

Careers and preparation for adult life

You’ll help learners practise communication, teamwork, organisation, problem-solving and taking responsibility through activities suited to their needs.

Sessions will also cover workplace behaviour, personal presentation, money skills and independence. Where appropriate, you’ll support CV writing, applications and interview preparation, helping learners understand what to expect and how to prepare.

You’ll help young people explore realistic options, including college, apprenticeships, training and employment, with their interests and aspirations shaping the goals they set.

You’ll also:

  • Help learners access careers resources and platforms, including Unifrog.
  • Develop links with employers, colleges and other organisations to broaden learners’ understanding of future opportunities.
  • Support practical enterprise and work-related learning within the provision.

Supporting our learners

You’ll build positive professional relationships within our therapeutic, child-centred approach. You’ll maintain appropriate boundaries and adapt expectations and delivery to each learner’s needs on the day.

You’ll support confidence, resilience, independence and emotional regulation, listening to learners’ views and involving them in decisions about their learning.

You’ll share observations with Learning Mentors, tutors, managers and the wider team to keep support consistent. You’ll help maintain a safe learning environment and follow safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour management and professional practice policies.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need experience delivering employability skills, vocational learning, careers education or a similar programme, alongside experience working with young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.

You should be confident adapting sessions for different abilities and barriers to education, balancing practical learning with qualification requirements.

You’ll also need:

  • The ability to plan and deliver differentiated sessions that reflect individual needs and goals.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills, including the ability to manage portfolios and evidence progress.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work closely with colleagues.
  • A commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed and child-centred education.
  • A flexible approach to teaching and supporting wider practical activities across the provision.
  • A willingness to undertake relevant training and continue developing your practice.

Useful experience and qualifications

Experience delivering City & Guilds Employability Skills qualifications would be an advantage, but is not essential. A relevant teaching, tutoring, assessing or training qualification would also be useful.

We’d welcome experience of qualification assessment, portfolio management, alternative provision, SEND or therapeutic education. Knowledge of careers education and preparation for adulthood, experience using Unifrog, or links with employers, colleges and community organisations would also be helpful.

Why join us?

You’ll join a supportive multidisciplinary team, with opportunities for professional development and progression. Working across farm and forest environments, you’ll help young people gain recognised qualifications and skills they can use beyond the classroom.

Equality and Diversity

Amegreen is committed to being an organisation where people can be their authentic selves in a safe and inclusive environment. We are actively building diverse teams and welcome and encourage applicants from all backgrounds. If you require any accessibility adjustments to support your application, please contact us.

Safeguarding

Amegreen Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Successful candidates will be required to go through a thorough safeguarding onboarding process which includes a full employment history review and an enhanced DBS check. Adherence to Safeguarding and GDPR requirements is mandatory for all employees.
