The Role

As a Children’s Residential Support Worker, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals to support young people in their daily lives while developing practical skills that complement your continued development. You’ll work on a shift rota (including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins), gaining a realistic insight into therapeutic care environments.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Build safe, trusting relationships with children and young people
  • Apply psychological theories (e.g., attachment, behaviour, trauma) in real-life settings
  • Support daily routines such as school, meals, activities, and bedtime
  • Help young people develop emotional regulation, confidence, and independence
  • Plan and engage in meaningful activities (games, creative play, outdoor activities)
  • Support trips such as cinema visits, bowling, museums, and seaside days
  • Accompany young people to school, appointments, and family time
  • Keep clear, accurate records to support care and safeguarding
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and professionals
