Put your finance experience to work for an organisation supporting children and young people.

Amegreen Children’s Services provides therapeutic residential care, specialist schools and alternative education across West Berkshire and Hampshire. Our finance team helps keep these services running, ensuring our colleagues have the resources they need to support the children in our care.

We’re looking for an organised and experienced Finance Accountant to join our Head Office team in Mortimer. Supporting the Finance Manager, you’ll take on a varied role covering bookkeeping, payroll, invoices, reconciliations and practical support across the organisation.

This would suit someone who enjoys being involved in the detail, takes pride in getting things right and is comfortable moving between different priorities in a busy finance team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Raising and processing sales invoices, keeping registers accurate and working with operational teams to ensure records match our accounting system.
  • Taking responsibility for accounts payable for one of our group companies, including purchase invoices and payment runs.
  • Managing petty cash and processing staff expenses, ensuring the necessary approvals are in place before payment.
  • Carrying out credit control, following up outstanding payments and resolving queries professionally.
  • Reconciling bank accounts, nominal ledgers and control accounts across different companies and cost centres.
  • Maintaining accurate financial spreadsheets and supporting records for our departments and group companies.
  • Processing monthly payroll for one company and supporting payroll every four weeks across the wider group, including checking timesheets, setting up new starters and posting journals.
  • Helping arrange purchases for new homes and education settings, including furniture, appliances and equipment.
  • Providing additional support to the finance team and Head Office, including maintaining vehicle and equipment registers and contract records.

What we’re looking for:

You’ll bring previous experience in bookkeeping or a similar finance role, with a sound understanding of accounting procedures and a careful, accurate approach to your work.

You should also have:

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and prioritise effectively.
  • Confidence using spreadsheets and accounting systems. Experience with Xero and Sage 50 Payroll would be beneficial.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships with colleagues, suppliers and external contacts.
  • The confidence to work independently, alongside a willingness to support the wider team.
  • A flexible approach, enthusiasm for learning and the ability to adapt as the organisation grows.
  • A good understanding of confidentiality and the importance of handling financial and personal information responsibly.

What you can expect from Amegreen:

  • Life assurance providing cover of four times your basic annual salary.
  • Health Shield health cash plan to help with everyday healthcare costs.
  • A confidential Employee Assistance Programme, with support available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • A pension scheme with enhanced employer contributions.
  • Access to our staff holiday home on the south coast, free of charge and subject to availability.
  • A varied role working with colleagues across our residential care, education and Head Office teams.
