Role

Your role as a Support Worker within Family Assessment includes:

  • Conducting assessments to help families develop and maintain a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Safeguarding children and parents through continuous assessment and planning.
  • Building trusting relationships with families, offering ongoing guidance and encouragement.
  • Supporting parents to reach their full potential, enabling them to provide care that meets a “good enough standard”.
  • Delivering daily support, offering crisis management, and assisting in the development of parenting skills.
  • Mentoring and advising parents to help them build long-term stability and resilience.
  • Monitoring and observing parent-child interactions, contributing to healthy attachment and child development.
  • Engaging in activities that strengthen family bonds and promote positive behaviour.
  • Maintaining clear, comprehensive written records of observations, family goals, and documentation.
  • Advocating for families by working with community resources and professional services.
  • Operating effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of emotional awareness.
  • Handling challenges with resilience, adaptability, and a child-focused approach.

Requirements

Our ideal candidate should:

  • Have a Level 3 Children & Young People’s Workforce Diploma (desirable, but not essential—full training provided).
  • Have experience working with families in a residential or supported environment.
  • Possess a genuine desire to help and support others, with a commitment to a career in supporting families.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with good literacy skills.
  • Be patient and empathetic towards the complex issues and challenges families may face.
  • Prioritise the safety and well-being of children.
  • Be nurturing and supportive, with effective mentoring skills.
  • Be experienced in safeguarding and creating a safe, stable environment.
  • Be self-motivated, able to work well under pressure, and adaptable to changing circumstances.
  • Able to apply transferable skills from relevant life or professional experience.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and professionals.
  • Always act in a professional manner, and stay calm under pressure.
