Job Purpose: As Production Manager you will be responsible to lead and manage all aspects of production activities on the Swansea site. The principal areas being Extrusion, Finishing & Print. You will ensure you and your teams conduct themselves safely at all times and comply with all occupational health & safety, environment, quality & food safety site rules. You will act as a key member of the sites Senior Management Team supporting the development and achievement of the business strategy. You will develop strong, clear leadership and vision, translating the site strategy into the Production department and promote continuous improvement, empowerment, career development, motivation, participation and team working.

JOB DIMENSIONS & SCOPE

  • Budget Revenue: £40 million
  • Number of direct reports: 3 (165 on site staff in total with indirect reports)

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develop short and long-term plans, policies, programs, operating procedures and objectives.
  • Delegate responsibilities, provide guidance and give direction on all production & service areas within the plant.
  • Maintain close surveillance over production & service areas through reports, staff meetings, observation and personal contact to assure integration of workflow, timely production, budgetary compliance and use of personal skills and machines.
  • Assist and advise others to solve problems and implement permanent corrective action.
  • Act as a liaison between co-workers and management team to keep people informed on matters of communication, decisions and policies.
  • Identify and implement creative cost reduction opportunities.
  • Administer or assist in coordination of various programs such as, safety, quality, waste, 6S, SMED, cost reduction and staffing.
  • Ensure all plant productivity, quality and safety goals are achieved– ensure waste management programs are on track.
  • Ensure all quality and process procedures are followed at all levels in Production department.
  • Deliver continuous improvement plans for all aspects of the site operations.
  • Support the engineering function during major engineering projects.
  • Support the maintenance and development of site management system.
  • Deliver key capital investment projects.
  • Support the optimisation of working capital through the reduction of inventory.
  • Responsible for managing approved CEAV to improve site safety, quality, waste and operational efficiency.
  • Uphold discipline and build development, succession plans and training programs for the Operations team.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 - 7 years’ management experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred; advanced degree and/or Black Belt certification advantageous.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to lead teams.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of manufacturing systems and a good working knowledge of processes and products.
  • Experience in implementing Operational Excellence projects (SMED, Six Sigma, Lean, 6S).
  • Good troubleshooting/problem solving & analytical skills; Knowledge of production, quality and hygiene systems.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to make quick decisions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; Good financial awareness (able to manage budgets etc.); Excellent organisational skills.
