The role of the Shift Engineer is to support the Extrusion shift with all repairs covering a wide range of equipment, services, systems and buildings associated with the running of a large blown film extrusion manufacturing site. Working a shift pattern of 4 on 4 off (2 days/2 nights) with 5 x 18-day break periods throughout the year. Holiday entitlement is factored into the scheduled shift pattern.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Fixing machine faults occurring as part of the normal shift activity.
  • Fast response to line breakdowns affecting production and liaising with the Extrusion Shift Manager.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance activities and routine safety inspections.
  • Fault finding and diagnostics in reactive breakdown or planned situations.
  • Planned preventative maintenance on a variety of production machinery to include extruders and site services.
  • Ensure all breakdowns are dealt with promptly and efficiently whilst ensuring that all PPM schedules are maintained.
  • Support project development.
  • Follow and encourage stringent HSE and standard company practices.
  • Practice continuous improvement and pro-activeness for improved ways of working offering possible solutions.
  • Perform maintenance tasks as part of planned maintenance or as directed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Work closely with Production Operators and act on feedback to resolve reoccurring issues.
  • Respond promptly to any unplanned maintenance issues or repairs to ensure minimum down time.
  • Demonstrate tenacity in approach to incident management and actively pursue investigations to identify root causes.
  • Use initiative and confidently make sound decisions quickly based on knowledge, experience and best practice.
  • Understand the importance of accurate and clear written records, maintaining documentation to a high standard.
  • Providing a written report on a shift basis.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Formal Qualifications and Experience: HNC or Degree level qualification in an Engineering discipline. Experience of working in a production maintenance environment is essential for this role.
  • Specific Skills and Abilities: Flexible, highly motivated and driven with the ability to prioritise own workload. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure. Strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills. Good communication and teamwork skills. Strong focus on quality, health & safety, and continuous improvement.

Be ambitious, driven and tenacious with a hunger to succeed and deliver results. Excellent IT skills are essential.
