Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Stonemason to join our Civils & Buildings Asset Management team, delivering reactive and planned maintenance works across the Central & East Scotland rail network, operating from our Glasgow depots. This role supports the delivery of essential works within a long‑term rail asset management framework. The position covers a diverse portfolio of traditional and structural masonry repair activities within a rail maintenance / asset management environment.
Business Unit
You will form part of a fast‑paced rail maintenance and asset management operation delivering vital works under long‑term framework agreements. Typical work activities include:
- Structure and masonry repairs to bridges, tunnels and retaining walls
- Station and building fabric maintenance
- Stone repairs, repointing and replacement works
- Drainage, earthworks and environmental damage repairs
- Minor civils and structural remedial works
- Planned preventative maintenance activities
The Role – Stonemason
As a Stonemason, you will be responsible for delivering high‑quality masonry works safely, efficiently and to the required standards across the Central & East route.
Key Responsibilities
- Reading and working from engineering and architectural drawings
- Carrying out stone repair, replacement and restoration works
- Measuring, preparing and setting out work areas accurately
- Mixing mortars manually or mechanically to specification
- Cutting, shaping and finishing stone using hand and power tools
- Ensuring work is completed right first time and to rail standards
- Working collaboratively with supervisors and other trades
- Complying with all health, safety, environmental and quality requirements
- Maintaining accurate records and reporting issues where required
- Supporting continuous improvement and best practice
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Stonemason, ideally within rail or heavy civils environments
- Ability to demonstrate relevant trade competence (City & Guilds or time‑served)
- PTS
- Strong understanding of health & safety in a site‑based environment
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Requirements
- Previous rail asset management or maintenance experience
- Experience working on structures, bridges or heritage masonry
