We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Rail Systems commercial team, supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of rail infrastructure projects across Wales, London and the South‑East.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading commercial role within a specialist business unit delivering a wide range of rail systems and E&P projects, including:

  • Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) schemes
  • Electrification projects
  • Signalling infrastructure and associated civils
  • Power and lighting renewals
  • Telecoms and communications installations
  • Lineside building and systems projects
  • Station enhancement and accessibility schemes
  • Multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects and frameworks

The successful candidate will support a growing portfolio of works including the W&W CP7 E&P Framework, EA AOMR Framework, Train Operating Company projects and other rail systems programmes across the Southern region.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of rail systems projects from pre‑construction through to final account.

Working alongside Project Managers, Construction Managers and operational delivery teams, you will provide commercial leadership across multiple projects, ensuring contractual compliance, robust cost control and successful project outcomes.

You will also play an important role in the development of Assistant and Graduate Quantity Surveyors, contributing to the continued growth of the Rail Systems commercial team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of Rail Systems, E&P and multidisciplinary rail infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and manage monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Produce accurate cost forecasts, cashflows and commercial reports.
  • Manage applications for payment, valuations and final accounts.
  • Lead subcontract procurement activities from enquiry through to contract award.
  • Prepare subcontract documentation and manage subcontract accounts from start to final account agreement.
  • Ensure effective contract administration and commercial governance.
  • Manage compensation events, variations and change control processes.
  • Prepare and submit upstream compensation events and change notifications to clients.
  • Manage downstream change and commercial entitlement with the supply chain.
  • Monitor project performance, identifying risks, opportunities and improvement initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a key commercial representative for the business.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and delivery teams to support programme and budget objectives.
  • Support commercial input into tenders, estimates and business development opportunities.
  • Mentor and manage Assistant and Graduate Quantity Surveyors, supporting their professional development.

About You

We're interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within rail, rail systems, E&P, M&E or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC forms of contract and change management procedures.
  • Experience delivering projects within Network Rail or rail contracting environments.
  • Demonstrable experience managing subcontract procurement and subcontractor accounts.
  • Strong understanding of commercial reporting, CVRs and forecasting.
  • Experience managing compensation events and contractual change processes.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Client‑facing experience with the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
  • Experience leading, mentoring or managing junior commercial staff.
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.

We support both Asset Management and Infrastructure Project delivery for key rail clients across long‑term frameworks and standalone schemes.
