An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Rail Electrical Design Engineer to join our dynamic and growing in‐house E&P design team. With a significant increase in workload, secured schemes already in delivery, and strong projected demand for next year, we are expanding our York‐based capability to ensure we continue meeting the needs of our clients and the wider business.

Business Unit

AmcoGiffen has secured numerous long‐term Frameworks with major clients, leading to notable growth across our Design & Engineering capability. Our current E&P team in York consists of a number of highly skilled E&P Engineers at varying levels. Due to expanding commitments, the team is over‐extended, and we are now investing in new roles to support both ongoing and future delivery.

Our E&P team is supporting a varied portfolio of ongoing and future works including but not limited to:

  • EV Infrastructure
  • Station and Accessibility Projects (AfA) – Electrical Design support for multiple opportunities nationwide.
  • Power Supply Schemes including PSP / DNO supplies.
  • Decarbonisation Projects

The Role

We are seeking an experienced E&P Electrical Design Engineer with a strong rail background to help deliver high‐quality electrical and power design services across a wide range of projects. This is a key role within an expanding team, where you will contribute directly to major enhancements, decarbonisation initiatives, EV infrastructure delivery, and station improvements across the network.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Developing technically sound E&P design solutions that meet project scope, budget and programme
  • Applying initiative to propose efficient, innovative design approaches
  • Challenging engineering briefs to ensure clarity and robustness from feasibility to detailed design
  • Producing and reviewing calculations, drawings, technical notes and design reports to current standards
  • Communicating design philosophy clearly within the team and to stakeholders
  • Representing the team at internal and external meetings
  • Supporting project planning, risk management, quality targets and financial controls
  • Promoting and embedding safe working practices
  • Contributing to team‐wide knowledge sharing and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • BEng / BSc Degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline
  • Sentinel Personal Track Safety (PTS) – competence in both AC and DC
  • Proven E&P design experience within a rail engineering environment
  • Experience working for a client, consultancy or contractor within rail E&P design
  • Working knowledge of: BS7671 (18th Edition), Applicable British Standards and Railway Group Standards, Network Rail standards (LUL standards beneficial)
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, ProjectWise, Hevacomp, Amtech, DIALux and similar design tools
  • Full UK driving licence
