The predicted salary is between 42000 - 84000 £ per year.
We are seeking an experienced P Way Manager / Permanent Way Manager to lead and manage permanent way / track engineering activities across a portfolio of projects throughout Scotland. This role will be central to ensuring that all works are planned and delivered to the highest engineering standards, fully compliant with industry requirements, and handed back safely and efficiently.
You will support and play a key role in operational interface for ongoing works at Clayhills Depot, WCML (West Coast Mainline), Rail Minor Works projects and future works in the region with rail track interface. The position requires strong technical leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate complex rail engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities
You will lead the daily management of track and permanent way activities, including planning, engineering assurance, operational interface, and site coordination. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Develop time/chainage or Gantt programmes, supported by staging diagrams.
- Build resource schedules aligned to programme requirements.
- Plan train movements and stage works using spoil and ballast calculations.
- Create stressing plans, consider site constraints, loading and structural clearances.
- Manage Critical Rail Temperature (CRT) data across all sites.
- Ensure effective setting out of renewal installations, including 3D control methods.
- Develop and oversee Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Lead on-site engineering teams (internal & external).
- Ensure construction compliance with Network Rail standards, specifications and internal procedures.
- Coordinate all interfacing activities to prevent conflicts with track work.
- Oversee equipment calibration records and quality documentation.
- Produce accurate as-built details and Health & Safety file information.
- Identify variations, potential efficiencies, and value engineering opportunities.
- Manage plant utilisation and optimize daily work plans.
- Support project delivery to time and cost targets while collaborating across disciplines.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with clients, the Principal Designer, CEM and subcontractors. Provide clear briefings and technical guidance to project teams. Report issues promptly to the Project Engineer / Project Manager.
Requirements
To succeed in this position, you should demonstrate:
- Previous experience as a P Way Manager or similar role on rail track projects
- Degree or minimum HNC/HND in Track / P-Way Engineering
- PTS, SWM, SMSTS certifications
- Background as a Project Manager, Agent or P Way Manager within rail frameworks
- Strong knowledge of Track Compliance Standards
- Proven experience managing track installations, renewals, and maintenance activities
