We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Regional Health & Safety Advisor / Manager to join our established and growing business, taking a pivotal role in leading Health & Safety performance across our North West region.

The Role

As Regional Health & Safety Advisor / Manager – North West, you will be the focal point for all Health & Safety matters across the region. You will work closely with operational and project teams to ensure safe planning, execution, and delivery of works, while championing behavioural safety and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as the primary source of professional Health & Safety advice for all North West regional projects and frameworks.
  • Promoting and embedding a positive SHEQ culture through engagement, coaching and behavioural safety initiatives.
  • Supporting the development, implementation and ongoing compliance of Project Health & Safety Plans and the Business Management System.
  • Providing proactive Health & Safety input throughout the project lifecycle—from pre-qualification and tender through to delivery and close-out.
  • Undertaking regular site inspections and audits, including occasional night and weekend works, ensuring compliance with legislation, company standards, client expectations and rail-specific requirements.
  • Ensuring corrective actions are closed out effectively and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Liaising with clients, principal contractors, and regulatory bodies where required.
  • Leading and supporting accident, incident and near-miss reporting and investigations.
  • Preparing monthly regional Health & Safety performance reports and contributing to wider management and governance reviews.
  • Delivering toolbox talks, briefings and Health & Safety training sessions.
  • Supporting and maintaining the company’s Principal Contractor Licence (Rail) within the North West region.
  • Delivering in-house Health & Safety training, with opportunities to provide RPE face-fit testing and Drug & Alcohol testing (training provided).
  • Mentoring and supporting Health & Safety Advisors and operational teams across the region.

About You

You will be a confident, credible and proactive Health & Safety professional with experience working within rail and/or civil engineering environments, and a passion for improving safety culture and performance.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Advisor or Manager within rail and/or civil engineering project environments.
  • Formal Health & Safety qualification (Degree, Diploma, HNC or HND).
  • TechIOSH, GradIOSH, or Chartered IOSH (or actively working towards Chartered status).
  • Strong understanding of construction and rail safety requirements, legislation and best practice.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and coaching skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a wider regional and national SHEQ team.
  • Flexibility to support works outside standard hours when required.
  • Full UK driving licence.
