(Eastern Region) An exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing commercial team supporting a portfolio of rail and civil engineering projects throughout the Eastern Region, including station enhancements, buildings works and Access for All (AfA) schemes.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in the commercial and financial management of projects from procurement through to final account. This position offers the opportunity to work on major infrastructure schemes while developing your commercial expertise within a supportive and collaborative environment. Business Unit
A busy and fast-paced project environment with an expansive portfolio of civil engineering works underway across the rail sector. Current projects include station enhancements, Access for All schemes, bridge interventions, structural upgrades and refurbishments, line-side civil engineering works, platform improvements, footbridges and associated infrastructure projects throughout the Eastern Region.
The business delivers a wide range of infrastructure projects for key rail clients, providing excellent opportunities to gain exposure to complex and varied schemes while developing your commercial career.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the commercial management of multiple projects to ensure successful financial and contractual outcomes.
  • Preparing and submitting applications for payment, variations, compensation events and final accounts.
  • Producing accurate monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), forecasts, cash flow projections and commercial reports.
  • Providing commercial support to operational teams to help deliver projects safely, on time and within budget.
  • Assisting with the identification and management of commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, measurement, payment and account settlement.
  • Administering NEC and Network Rail forms of contract and ensuring contractual compliance.
  • Liaising with Site Managers and Project Managers to collate project information and support commercial decision-making.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • Supporting change management, compensation events and early warning processes.
  • Assisting with tendering and estimating activities where required.
  • Supporting the Commercial Manager in achieving business objectives and driving continuous improvement.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a civil engineering, rail or infrastructure contracting environment.
  • A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting the commercial delivery of civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Good knowledge of NEC forms of contract and associated commercial processes.
  • Experience in subcontract management, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Strong financial reporting, forecasting and cost management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach with a desire to develop within a successful commercial team.
  • Rail project experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
