Join our dynamic commercial team as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, working within a fast-paced Civils Asset Maintenance framework across the North West and Central regions. This role offers a fantastic chance to enhance your skills and gain valuable experience in a supportive environment.
About The Business Unit
Our business operates within a busy and rapidly evolving rail civils asset maintenance and management environment. We manage a variety of small-scale maintenance projects—both reactive and planned—focused on maintaining and repairing rail assets under long-term frameworks and contracts.
Typical projects include:
- Repair and maintenance of bridges, tunnels, and structures
- Station upgrades and refurbishments
- Embankment repairs
- Flood and weather damage repairs
- Signage, fencing, vegetation management, handrails, and other civil assets
The Role
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support our Commercial team in ensuring the profitable performance of the business unit through effective financial and commercial management of projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting Quantity Surveyors/Senior Quantity Surveyors with procurement activities and subcontractor evaluations
- Managing subcontractor payments and contract administration
- Preparing interim valuations and final accounts
- Managing change control processes
- Producing project reports, forecasts, and cash flow reviews (CVRs)
- Supporting project financial planning and reporting to ensure project profitability
What We\’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you should have prior experience as a Trainee, Graduate, or Assistant Quantity Surveyor within a civil engineering environment. Some rail sector experience is advantageous but not essential.
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (HNC, HND, Degree)
- Civil engineering project experience (rail, bridges, roads, structures, etc.)
- Familiarity with NEC or other bespoke contracts
- Post-graduate experience in a civils contracting environment (candidates currently in Trainee or Graduate roles seeking career progression are encouraged to apply)
