Business Unit & Project Overview:
You will be based within our Engineering Business Unit from our Warrington office, supporting the commercial delivery of a diverse portfolio of civil engineering and mechanical & electrical (M&E) projects across the UK. The Engineering team delivers design & build projects, capital works and ongoing maintenance programmes, frequently within regulated, safety-critical and environmentally sensitive environments.
Our current client portfolios include:
- Environment Agency – civil infrastructure, flood risk management and asset maintenance
- Environment Agency MEICA – Mechanical & Electrical infrastructure maintenance and renewals
- Mechanical & Electrical maintenance frameworks across strategic infrastructure assets
- Canals & Rivers Trust – M&E maintenance and minor civils projects
- Multi-disciplinary civil and M&E projects for public and regulated sector clients
Typical works include:
- Flood alleviation and environmental infrastructure
- Mechanical and electrical installations, renewals and maintenance
- Earthworks, embankments and structural assets
- Bridges (under, over and footbridges)
- Tunnels, water control structures and associated civils
- Integrated civils and M&E design & build projects
The Role:
As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, you will be an integral part of the Engineering commercial team, working alongside Quantity Surveyors, Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers. You will receive structured mentoring and on-the-job training, developing a strong foundation in commercial awareness, cost control and contract administration, while applying academic learning directly to live civils and M&E projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the commercial delivery of civil engineering and M&E projects
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement, valuations and payments
- Supporting cost value reconciliation (CVR) and forecasting processes
- Producing and maintaining cost reports and commercial documentation
- Assisting with pricing, estimating and tender submissions
- Supporting variation management, change control and commercial records
- Liaising with site and project teams to gather cost and progress information
- Assisting with interim applications and final accounts
- Ensuring accurate commercial record keeping across the project lifecycle
Who We’re Looking For:
We’re looking for someone with the right attitude, motivation and ambition, rather than previous industry experience. You should:
- Have a strong interest in Quantity Surveying or commercial management
- Be organised, proactive and eager to learn
- Have good numeracy, communication and IT skills
- Be comfortable working in a collaborative, project-based environment
- Be committed to studying part-time towards a Degree Level Apprenticeship
