As part of our continued growth within the Environment Agency AOMR Framework, we are seeking a motivated and capable Site Agent with strong earthworks, civil engineering and site management expertise to support our expanding work bank.
With new tenders secured and a robust forward programme, this role offers stability, long‑term progression and the opportunity to lead teams delivering essential flood defence, asset maintenance and multidisciplinary civils & mechanical works.
The Role
As a Site Agent, you will be a key operational site leader, ensuring the safe, compliant and successful delivery of a range of civils and engineering maintenance projects. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will help shape and support project delivery across a rapidly growing portfolio of Environment Agency works. Your role will support the business in meeting increased framework demand, strengthening delivery capability, and ensuring projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety and environmental responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Execution: Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, contract terms, health & safety plans, WPPs/TBEs, and quality/environmental requirements.
- Project Delivery: Deliver projects on time, within budget and aligned with framework performance expectations. Lead earthworks, civils, structural and mechanical maintenance activities with technical confidence.
- Team & Resource Management: Coordinate site teams, suppliers and supervisors to ensure resource availability and efficient project execution. Work closely with commercial teams to manage cost, value and tender allowances.
- Progress Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor progress against programme, mitigate risks, and address issues proactively. Provide regular formal updates to the Contracts Manager and maintain accurate project records.
- Contract & Change Management: Identify, assess and manage contract changes, variations and operational risks in coordination with the delivery team.
About You
You will succeed in this role if you have:
- Experience as a Site Agent or Sub Agent within civil engineering
- Knowledge of Environment Agency, water sector or flood defence projects
- Strong understanding of safe working and permit‑to‑work environments
- A proactive leadership style with the ability to drive quality, safety and efficiency
- The confidence to coordinate multidisciplinary works including civils, mechanical and environmental tasks
Qualifications Required
- Degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience
- SMSTS
- CSCS
- SEATS (Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme)
- Full UK Driving License
Skills Required
- Earthworks – understanding and managing earthwork operations in regulated environments
- Engineering – civil engineering knowledge applied to maintenance, repair and asset improvement
- Management – leading teams, coordinating resources and ensuring compliance
- Civils – proven background in civil engineering contracting, ideally with environmental or water sector exposure
