The Role

As Regional Health & Safety Advisor / Manager for Scotland, you will be the focal point for Health & Safety matters across a diverse portfolio of rail and civil engineering works. You will provide expert guidance, lead cultural and behavioural safety initiatives, and ensure our teams deliver projects safely, effectively, and in line with industry and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Acting as a key source of professional Health & Safety advice across all Scotland regional projects and frameworks.
  • Promoting and embedding a positive SHEQ culture through coaching, engagement, and behavioural safety/science interventions.
  • Supporting the development, implementation and compliance of project Health & Safety Plans and the Business Management System.
  • Providing detailed H&S input throughout the project lifecycle—from pre-qualification to completion—to ensure safe execution at every stage.
  • Undertaking Site Safety Inspections, including occasional weekend/nights site visits, ensuring compliance with legislation, company systems, client standards and project requirements.
  • Ensuring corrective actions from inspections are completed and that continuous improvement opportunities are identified and realised.
  • Liaising with Client Safety Representatives and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Leading and supporting Accident/Incident Reporting and Investigation in line with company procedures.
  • Preparing monthly regional H&S performance reports and contributing to management reviews.
  • Facilitating safety briefings, meetings, and open channels of communication across project teams.
  • Supporting the management of the company’s Principal Contractors Licence (Rail) within the region.
  • Delivering in-house training on a suite of Health & Safety topics.
  • Offering RPE face-fit testing and Drug & Alcohol testing (full training provided).
  • Mentoring and supporting Health & Safety Advisors and operational staff within the regional project teams.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring solid experience, sound judgement, and a passion for continuous improvement within the rail and/or civil engineering sectors.

Essential Requirements:

  • Significant experience as a Health & Safety Advisor or Manager within rail and/or civil engineering project environments.
  • Formal Health & Safety qualification (Degree / Diploma / HNC / HND).
  • TechIOSH, GradIOSH or Chartered/working-towards-Chartered status (IOSH).
  • Strong understanding of rail environments, civil engineering activities, and construction safety.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and coaching skills.
  • Demonstrable commitment to high professional standards and personal development.
  • Flexibility to support occasional works and events outside normal working hours.
  • Full UK driving licence.
