The Opportunity
Reporting into the Fabrication Management Team, you'll take ownership of the estimating process from enquiry through to bid submission. You will assess drawings, specifications, and client requirements to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates while working closely with procurement, operations, and commercial teams. This is a highly visible role offering exposure to clients, suppliers, and key stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate estimates and detailed cost plans for fabrication and steelwork projects.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Assess material, labour, plant, and manufacturing costs.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities within tender submissions.
- Support contract reviews and negotiations with customers and suppliers.
- Work closely with fabrication, procurement, and project delivery teams.
- Develop relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Contribute to business development initiatives and growth strategies.
- Monitor market conditions, material pricing, and industry trends.
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and systems.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Previous experience in an Estimator role within steel fabrication, structural steelwork, heavy engineering, manufacturing, or a related sector.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of project costing principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience preparing competitive tenders and quotations.
Desirable
- Knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes.
- Experience working with commercial forms of contract.
- Exposure to rail, infrastructure, civils, or construction-related projects.
