At Ambulnz UK (AUK), we are committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and high‑quality patient care. We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our Mental Health Ambulance team, providing essential support to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.

As a Mental Health Ambulance Assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering specialised non‑emergency and secure mental health patient transport. You will support individuals experiencing mental health challenges, ensuring they are transported safely, respectfully, and with dignity between healthcare settings, including hospitals, inpatient units, and community environments.

Ambulnz Community Partners is part of the Ambulnz UK Group, operating over 19 bases across England and Wales with a workforce of more than 800 staff supporting the NHS and hospital Trusts. We provide a broad range of services including:

  • Patient Transport Services
  • 999 frontline
  • Secure Mental Health Transport
  • Urgent and Emergency Care

Whilst previous experience in patient care or secure mental health transport is desirable, it is not essential. We provide comprehensive training, including:

  • FREC3 Qualification – First Response Emergency Care – Level 3
  • Patient assessment
  • Basic life support & CPR
  • Use of an AED (defibrillator)
  • Airway management
  • Managing trauma (bleeding, fractures, shock)
  • Medical emergencies (heart attack, stroke, asthma, seizures, etc.)
  • Catastrophic haemorrhage control (e.g., tourniquets, haemostatic dressings)
  • Administering oxygen
  • Safe manual handling

PMVA course – Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression

  • Understand the causes and triggers of challenging behaviours
  • Use de‑escalation and communication techniques
  • Promote safe, compassionate, and person‑centred care
  • Recognise early warning signs of agitation or distress
  • Apply safe, legally compliant physical interventions only when absolutely necessary
  • Protect both patients and staff from harm

Most importantly, we are looking for individuals who are:

  • Caring, compassionate, and patient‑focused
  • Able to treat all service users with dignity, respect, and empathy
  • Calm under pressure and able to communicate effectively
  • A team player, working as part of a double or triple crew

Requirements:

  • Full UK manual driving licence (minimum 1 year’s driving experience; no more than 6 points)
  • Good physical fitness to support safe manual handling and patient movement
  • Willingness to work a 4‑on, 4‑off shift pattern – Shift times: 0700/1900, 1100/2300 & 1900/0700
