- On a daily basis, liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff across the organisation, providing and receiving information.

- Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)
- Independent Complaints Advocacy Services
- Other NHS and independent patient experience teams
- Local Authorities
- Social Services
- Police and ambulance services

Main Purpose Of The Role
The Transport Porter will be responsible for delivering a safe, caring, and efficient service to all outpatient and discharge patients being transported within the Imperial core hospital sites.
This is a role highly engaged in the service delivery of the contract and responsible for the day-to day movement of patients between designated pick up and collection points, aiding the reduction of time spent on site for ACA’s loading/unloading and reducing collection/drop off points to/from multiple locations.
The Transport Porter is responsible for the improvement of patient flow by assisting the movement of patients as directed by the CAS hospital site team and focusing on timeliness, infection prevention, high-quality care and safety.
Key Tasks
- To assist in the day-to-day running of the service, in particular patient flow.
- Take direction and priority patient movements from the hospital site team
- Assist in the consolidation of collection points for our road crews, primarily moving patients to either the transport or discharge lounges ready for collection.
- Assist in loading/unloading patients from our ambulances, taking them from or delivering them to their appointments.
- Full takeover/handover is to be completed in-line with training
- Provide real time “handover” and “contact made” times to the hospital site team via radio
- Record keeping of real time “handover” and “contact made” times
- To accurately report any concerns including safeguarding, in line with our currently policies
- Conduct onsite patient risk assessments to determine booking suitability
- Handle informal complaints or issues patients or staff bring to your attention, ensuring action is taken to de-escalate a complaint or escalate to the Patient Liaison Manager where appropriate.
- Attend periodic meetings with the Patient Liaison Manager to review patient collection and book ready times.
- Ensure all tasks completed work towards achieving performance targets, proactively finding solutions where performance is at risk.
- Undertake patient-facing duties focusing on assisting and supporting crews with patient movements/manual handling tasks in and out of the units.
- Where necessary assist patients to vehicles and to/from wards/departments around the hospital including comfort breaks
- Maintain links with hospital teams to support positive working relationships to ensure a collaborative approach to managing patient care.
This list is not exhaustive, you will be required to perform ad-hoc duties, within your skill base, as required by the Company to support an effective and efficient service.

- Infection Prevention and Control: The post holder will ensure they follow the Company’s infection prevention and control (IPC) policies and procedures to protect patients, staff, and visitors from healthcare associated infections. They will ensure that they use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with policy and procedure. All staff must challenge non-compliance with IPC policies immediately and feedback through appropriate line managers if required.
- Safeguarding Children and Adults: We take our responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults seriously. The Company expects all staff to identify their own responsibilities appropriate to their role within statute and guidance. This will include accessing safeguarding training and may include seeking advice, support, and supervision from the service’s safeguarding team. Where staff are unclear of their responsibilities, they must seek guidance from their manager.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS): If the post you are undertaking requires you to complete a DBS disclosure, this will be managed and processed in line with the DBS Policy.
