As an Ambulance Crew member, you will provide high-quality pre‑hospital care and safe transport to patients in scheduled and emergency situations. Working on‑site in Northampton in a full‑time capacity, you will assess patients, deliver appropriate interventions within your scope of practice, and assist with the transfer of patients to and from healthcare facilities, homes, schools, and events. You will support complex bariatric extrications, HDU and critical care transfers, mental health secure transport, and specialist journeys for children with complex special educational needs.

Daily duties include:

  • Checking and maintaining vehicle readiness, equipment, and supplies;
  • Completing accurate patient care records;
  • Following clinical guidelines, health and safety procedures, and safeguarding policies;
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues, clinicians, and partner agencies, representing the organization with professionalism and empathy at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant clinical qualification such as Emergency Care Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or equivalent pre‑hospital care certification (or working toward), with valid registration where applicable.
  • Strong patient care and communication skills, including the ability to provide clear explanations, reassurance, and compassionate support to patients, families, and carers.
  • Experience or training in emergency and non‑emergency patient transport, including manual handling, bariatric moving and handling, and safe use of stretchers and lifting equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic life support and first aid techniques; advanced life support or trauma care training is advantageous.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, mental health awareness, and working with children and adults with complex needs or disabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, remain calm under pressure, and make sound decisions in time‑critical situations.
  • Good written and digital record‑keeping skills to complete patient care reports, incident forms, and vehicle check documentation accurately.
  • Full clean UK driving licence suitable for ambulance driving; C1 entitlement and blue light driving qualifications are highly desirable.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays, as operationally required.
