This position, based at our Southampton Global Operations Centre, is for a full-time Geospatial Associate Analyst within the Risk Analytics function. The role will focus on supporting data-driven geospatial analysis to inform risk assessment, operational decision making, and client deliverables. The successful candidate will work closely with analysts and stakeholders across the business, contributing to the development, maintenance, and interpretation of geospatial datasets and analytical outputs. The post will report directly to the Director of Risk Analytics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data collection & management: Gather geospatial data from Ambrey’s proprietary datasets, public EO datasets and electronic nautical charts.
- Spatial analysis: Select and use tools (like ArcGIS or QGIS) to analyse trends using vector data, benchmark Ambrey’s services with industry assessments.
- Map creation & visualization: Build clear, interactive charts, dashboards, Survey123 and story maps for stakeholders. Managing Esri organisation, including license renewals and content administration.
- Data cleaning & processing: Ensure datasets are accurate, consistent, and usable.
- Reporting insights: Translate technical findings into recommendations. Collaborate with Analyst teams to implement and improve geospatial analytics services.
- Troubleshoot issues arising from the geospatial services.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- A bachelor’s in a related field such as Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Oceanography, or Environmental Science.
- GIS software proficiency (ArcGIS, QGIS) and workflow automation in ArcGIS Pro are necessary.
- Data analysis (Excel, SQL, Python/R).
- Understanding of spatial concepts (coordinates, projections, geostatistics).
- Visualisation skills (maps, dashboards, and storytelling).
- The capability to work independently and set priorities.
- Ability to collaborate with peers.
- Interest in maritime security and political risk.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Salary: Commensurate with experience
- Working hours: 08:30am to 17:30pm Monday to Friday
- Job type: Full-time, permanent
- Office location: Southampton
- This role includes occasional on‑call support. In practice, call‑outs are uncommon and usually linked to recent system changes made by the team, rather than ongoing operational issues.
