This is a Southampton-based hybrid position for a Project Manager within the Crisis Management Response Team.

The Fleet Project Manager at Ambrey is responsible for the end-to-end management of fleet-related projects, with particular focus on client-managed vessels and damaged or non-operational fleet assets. The role acts as the primary interface between Ambrey, vessel owners, and clients, ensuring that fleet projects and management are delivered safely, compliantly, on time, and within the agreed scope and cost. This role requires a Master Mariner Unlimited with an Advanced Dangerous Cargo Endorsement (Oil), bringing strong operational credibility, project leadership, and stakeholder management capability into a shore-based project and client-facing role. The post will report to the Director Global Response.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and deliver marine and fleet-related projects across Ambrey’s portfolio, including client onboarding, fleet transitions, crew management, vessel activations, deactivations, and fleet exit projects.
  • Develop project plans covering scope, schedule, cost, risks, and deliverables for fleet-related initiatives.
  • Manage damaged, laid up, or non-operational vessels, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective status management.
  • Coordinate project activities across internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
  • Ensure continued compliance of ceased vessels with Flag, Class, insurance, and statutory obligations.
  • Develop and manage cost-control strategies for ceased fleet assets, including minimum manning, maintenance preservation, and asset protection.
  • Coordinate inspections, surveys, and audits related to laid-up or inactive vessels.
  • Provide operational and technical oversight for fleet projects, ensuring compliance with ISM Code, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, Class, and Flag State requirements.
  • Review and approve project-related documentation, including risk assessments, method statements, and maintenance or preservation plans.
  • Support incident investigations or claims related to fleet projects or ceased vessels where required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Significant seagoing experience as Master or senior deck officer.
  • Master Mariner Unlimited Certificate of Competency (STCW II/2).
  • Certificate Of Proficiency – Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations or Equivalent Dangerous Cargo Endorsement (Oil) (STCW V/1-1 para 3).
  • Strong operational background on Oil or Oil product tankers.
  • Experience managing vessels in operational, laid up, or damaged states.
  • Proven involvement in fleet management, vessel projects, or operational transitions.
  • Client-facing experience within a marine, shipping, offshore, or energy environment (highly desirable).
  • Strong project management and organisational capability.
  • Excellent stakeholder and client management skills.
  • Commercial awareness and budget control experience.
  • High level of operational and regulatory knowledge.
  • Confident decision-maker with strong risk-assessment ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
  • Demonstrates strong safety leadership and personal accountability.
  • Acts in accordance with Ambrey’s values, Code of Conduct, and commitment to operational excellence.
  • Promotes a proactive safety culture across all fleet projects.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Salary: Commensurate with experience.
  • Working hours: 08:30am to 17:30pm Monday to Friday.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to vessels, shipyards, and client locations as required.
  • Job type: 3-month fixed term as an employee or consultant.
