Role Description
The ICA/Electrical Engineer role at AMBRA Electrical Ltd is a full-time, on-site position based in Southampton. This role involves designing, installing, and maintaining electrical and instrumentation/control systems for water industry projects, including treatment plants and pumping stations. Daily tasks include preparing technical drawings and specifications, configuring and testing control panels, troubleshooting electrical and ICA systems, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The engineer will work closely with project managers and site teams to plan and execute installations, support commissioning activities, and provide technical input during project reviews. Responsibilities also include collaborating with clients and suppliers, documenting work and test results, and contributing to continuous improvement of engineering processes and solutions.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including industrial power distribution, motor control, and LV electrical systems.
- Experience with ICA (Instrumentation, Control, and Automation), including sensors, PLCs, SCADA systems, and related field devices - preferred.
- Ability to read and produce electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams using relevant design tools or CAD software.
- Understanding of water industry processes, treatment facilities, and pumping station operations, or similar industrial environments.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical standards, health and safety regulations, and best practices for on-site installations.
- Hands-on experience with panel wiring, control panel assembly, testing, and fault-finding on electrical and ICA systems.
- Effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and capability to diagnose and resolve technical issues under time constraints.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary site and project teams.
Certifications and Qualifications
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Industrial / ICA experience - advantageous
- PLC installation experience - preferred
- CompEx β advantageous
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Good general computer and literacy skills
- Professional, reliable and able to work independently
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Beneficial: Experience in fibre optic installation or data communication networks, and familiarity
