As a Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN), you’ll be an essential part of our clinical team, supporting our Vets and Registered Veterinary Nurses in delivering exceptional care to patients and clients alike. This role combines practical, hands‑on learning within the practice with structured study, including attendance at college one day per week to support your veterinary nursing qualification. You’ll be working alongside a friendly, experienced team who are committed to helping you develop your skills, confidence, and professional knowledge throughout your training.
YOUR DAY‑TO‑DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing high standards of nursing care to patients
- Assisting Vets and Nurses with animal handling and restraint
- Feeding, exercising, and caring for in‑patients
- Preparing operating theatres and emergency equipment
- Running internal laboratory samples
- Maintaining clinical cleanliness and infection control standards
- Handling emergency calls
- Supporting reception duties, including client queries, appointment booking, and payment processing
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Excellent communication skills with a kind, empathetic approach
- Strong customer service skills and confidence dealing with the public
- Experience or knowledge of animal care, including handling, feeding, cleaning, and medicating
- Emotional resilience and the ability to manage challenging situations
- A positive, can‑do attitude and strong teamwork skills
- Previous experience in a veterinary environment (desirable but not essential)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
You’ll need one of the following:
- Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English, Maths, and a Science
- An Animal Nursing Assistant (ANA) or Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) qualification, plus Functional Skills Level 2 in Application of Number and Communication
