Overview
We are seeking a highly organised, hands-on Cold Stores Team Leader to take ownership of the day-to-day operations within a fast-paced, temperature-controlled facility. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant handling of goods while driving team performance and maintaining exceptional quality standards. The successful candidate will bring proven supervisory experience within a cold store or warehouse environment, strong operational awareness, and the ability to lead by example in a demanding setting.
Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Oversee all daily cold store activities including goods intake, storage, picking, and dispatch. Ensure smooth workflow and optimal use of labour and resources.
- Inventory & Stock Control: Maintain accurate stock rotation (FIFO/FEFO) and stock integrity. Conduct stock counts and ensure inventory systems are updated correctly and on time.
- Team Management: Lead, motivate, and develop a team of operatives. Allocate workloads, monitor performance, and uphold consistently high standards.
- Compliance, Safety & Quality: Enforce health & safety, food safety, and hygiene standards at all times. Ensure compliance with industry regulations such as HACCP and BRC.
- Temperature & Equipment Management: Monitor temperature-controlled environments to ensure product integrity. Carry out regular checks on cold store equipment and report faults promptly.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and waste reduction. Support the implementation of best practices across the operation.
- Reporting & Administration: Complete shift reports, performance metrics, and incident documentation accurately.
Requirements
- Previous supervisory experience within a cold store, warehouse, or logistics environment.
- Strong understanding of cold chain operations and warehouse management systems.
- Sound knowledge of health & safety and food safety requirements.
- Confident leader with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working in cold conditions for extended periods.
- Competent IT skills, including inventory systems and Microsoft Office.
Desirable Qualifications
- Certification in Logistics, Warehouse Management, or a related discipline.
- HACCP or Health & Safety training.
- Forklift licence (preferred but not essential).
