Our client is a well-established and highly respected food manufacturer with a long-standing reputation for quality, innovation and craftsmanship.

Supplying premium products to customers across the UK and internationally, they continue to invest in their people, operations and manufacturing capabilities.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Front Line Manager (FLM) to join their Packing/Slicing operation at their production site 6 miles from Melton Mowbray.

The Role

Reporting into the Production Management team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of your shift, ensuring production targets, quality standards, safety requirements and operational efficiencies are consistently achieved.

Leading a team of Team Leaders and production colleagues, you will drive performance, promote continuous improvement and create a positive, engaged working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the Packing/Slicing department during your shift.
  • Ensure production plans and shift targets are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
  • Motivate, coach and support Team Leaders and production colleagues to achieve operational objectives.
  • Coordinate staffing levels and deployment across production areas to maximise productivity.
  • Ensure departmental start-up procedures and safety checks are completed accurately.
  • Promote and enforce Health & Safety standards, ensuring appropriate use of PPE and compliance across the department.
  • Maintain product quality and ensure all manufacturing and packing processes meet company and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor departmental performance, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste and optimise labour costs.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering and other departments to minimise downtime and maximise operational performance.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and operational excellence across the team.
  • Ensure production records, KPI data and departmental documentation are completed accurately and on time.
  • Manage team performance, attendance and day-to-day employee issues while maintaining high levels of engagement and morale.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, company policies and all relevant legislation.

About You

The successful candidate will have previous leadership experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally within food or process manufacturing.

  • You’ll also bring
  • Proven experience managing teams within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and people management skills.
  • Food manufacturing or process manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of quality, food safety and compliance systems.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills with experience of production reporting.
  • The ability to prioritise workload and make sound operational decisions.
  • A proactive, hands-on management style with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing production requirements and seasonal demand.
  • An Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate, or willingness to achieve this within 12 months.
