We are looking for an experienced and proactive HR Manager to lead our people strategy, support our managers and ensure we continue to build a positive, high-performing workplace.

The HR Manager will take ownership of all aspects of Human Resources across the business. This is a hands-on role that combines operational HR with strategic planning, ensuring compliance with employment legislation while supporting the development, wellbeing and performance of our employees.

The successful candidate will work closely with department managers to drive employee engagement, oversee recruitment, manage performance, develop policies and ensure best practice across all HR activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employee Relations & Performance Management
    • Lead and manage the employee performance review and appraisal process.
    • Support managers in setting objectives, managing performance and developing employees.
    • Identify training needs and coordinate learning and development programmes.
    • Promote a positive workplace culture that encourages engagement, motivation and retention.
    • Manage employee records and maintain accurate personnel files and HR systems.
    • Handle employee relations matters, including grievances, absence management and conflict resolution.
    • Conduct return-to-work interviews and monitor attendance trends.
    • Organise employee engagement initiatives, wellbeing activities, team events and staff communications.
  • Recruitment & Workforce Planning
    • Lead the full recruitment process from advertising through to onboarding.
    • Produce and review job descriptions in partnership with department managers.
    • Screen applicants, conduct interviews and coordinate second-stage interviews where required.
    • Support succession planning and workforce resource planning.
    • Develop HR objectives that align with the company's strategic business goals.
  • HR Administration & Payroll Support
    • Accurately record employee absence, holidays and overtime.
    • Verify weekly timesheets with department managers.
    • Provide payroll information to the Accounts team within required deadlines.
    • Produce regular HR reports and management information.
  • Compliance & Employment Law
    • Ensure compliance with current UK employment legislation.
    • Develop, review and implement HR policies, procedures, contracts and employee handbooks.
    • Lead workplace investigations and disciplinary procedures, obtaining external employment law advice where appropriate.
    • Maintain confidential HR documentation and accurate case records.
  • Health & Safety
    • Promote a positive health and safety culture across the business.
    • Work alongside the SHEQ Coordinator to ensure risk assessments are completed and maintained.
    • Support compliance with company health and safety procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Business Improvement
    • Analyse HR data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
    • Support managers in improving productivity, employee performance and operational efficiency.
    • Participate in business improvement projects and organisational change initiatives.
    • Assist with business continuity planning and operational resilience activities.
About You

We are looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys working closely with people while supporting business growth.

Essential
  • Previous experience in a HR Manager or Senior HR Advisor role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience managing recruitment, employee relations and performance management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
  • Confident using HR systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to influence, coach and support managers at all levels.
Desirable
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or above (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience developing HR policies and procedures.
  • Experience within construction, restoration, facilities management or operational environments.
  • Experience supporting organisational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
