Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Manager to join a well-established food manufacturing business. This role offers the chance to lead and develop an engineering team within a modern, well-invested production environment, supporting both day-to-day operations and ongoing site improvement projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving engineering performance, improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and supporting future capital investment programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering & Continuous Improvement
- Drive site performance improvements through the development of maintenance procedures and optimisation of preventative maintenance programmes.
- Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives within the engineering function.
- Lead and support continuous improvement activities across the site.
- Manage and deliver small engineering projects as required.
- Lead root cause analysis investigations for major or recurring equipment failures and develop team capability in problem-solving techniques.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and develop the engineering team to achieve high levels of performance.
- Conduct regular team meetings and communicate departmental and business updates.
- Manage performance reviews, training, development plans, absence management, and disciplinary matters.
- Coach and mentor engineers to enhance technical and professional skills.
- Ensure appropriate engineering cover is maintained to support operational requirements.
- Operational Support
- Work closely with production teams to maximise equipment availability and achieve production targets.
- Attend daily operational meetings and provide updates on engineering activities.
- Organise engineering resources to minimise downtime and maximise plant efficiency.
- Provide technical support and guidance to engineers and production personnel.
- Ensure planned maintenance activities are completed on time and to the required standard.
- Compliance, Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all site health, safety, environmental, and food safety procedures.
- Support the delivery of statutory compliance requirements, audits, and accreditations.
- Manage contractor control processes, permits to work, and visitor safety requirements.
- Ensure maintenance documentation, risk assessments, and maintenance records are completed accurately.
- Promote and maintain high engineering and manufacturing standards throughout the site.
Candidate Requirements
- Electrically biased engineering background within a fast-paced manufacturing environment (food manufacturing experience desirable but not essential).
- Proven experience leading and managing engineering or maintenance teams.
- Strong knowledge of engineering compliance and health & safety requirements.
- Excellent communication and people management skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively in a demanding production environment.
- Experience managing departmental HSE procedures and compliance activities.
