We are working with a growing manufacturing business looking to appoint a Buyer / Purchasing Officer to take ownership of day-to-day purchasing, supplier management, and materials control within a fast-paced engineering environment. This is a hybrid role that combines hands-on procurement with elements of stores coordination, compliance support, and supplier relationship management. It would suit someone who is confident working with MRP systems and enjoys a varied role where no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase all components, materials, and consumables using an in-house MRP system
  • Manage supplier relationships and negotiate with key vendors
  • Oversee procurement of recurring services including utilities, maintenance, and contracts
  • Support supply and demand planning to ensure material availability
  • Work closely with warehouse and stores teams to manage goods-in and stock flow
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and pricing data
  • Support day-to-day compliance with ISO9001 and health & safety processes
  • Liaise with external contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth operations
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve purchasing efficiency

About You

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a purchasing or buying role
  • Strong understanding of supply chain and procurement processes
  • Experience using MRP/ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Sage, Epicor, or similar)
  • Confident building and maintaining supplier relationships
  • Commercially aware with a good understanding of cost control and demand planning
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing or engineering environment (desirable)
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 or regulated environments would be an advantage
