The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.
A fantastic opportunity for a skilled Controls Engineer to play a crucial role in the fault diagnosis, maintenance, and upgrade of plant control systems and electrical infrastructure. The successful candidate will support site operations to ensure optimal performance, safety, and compliance with all legislative and internal standards.
Ideally the hours of work will be Wednesday – Sunday however Monday to Friday workings is an option for the right candidate (may involve call out at the weekend)
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Compliance
Lead the ongoing upgrade and maintenance of all site PLC, SCADA, and control systems.
Act as the Electrical Duty Holder , ensuring compliance with electrical testing, PAT systems, and safety regulations.
Conduct regular audits of control/electrical systems and standards.
Manage and update electrical schematics, documentation, and software backups.
Project Management & Execution
Deliver control/electrical projects from concept through to installation and commissioning.
Prepare specifications, P&IDs, project justifications, tender evaluations, and Capital Expenditure Proposals (CEPs).
Coordinate electrical authorisation and competency certifications for engineering staff.
Breakdown Support & Continuous Improvement
Provide hands-on support during breakdowns and site incidents, including out-of-hours assistance.
Assist in CI initiatives and ensure critical spares and systems are in place for fast recovery.
Support legacy control systems and develop recovery procedures for plant and equipment.
People Development & Contractor Management
Identify and close skill gaps in the engineering team through training and structured development plans.
Ensure contractors adhere to site H&S procedures while carrying out their duties.
Champion electrical safety and accident prevention across the site.
Key Outputs / Success Metrics
Achievement of site KPIs and operational targets.
Compliance with all relevant electrical legislation and internal standards.
Timely delivery of projects within budget and scope.
High system uptime and rapid fault resolution.
Effective skills development across the engineering team.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Strong understanding of electrical systems, PLCs, SCADA, and networking technologies.
Practical experience with:
Rockwell and Modicon PLCs
Siemens and DeviceNet FieldBus
iFix SCADA, SQL Server, and reporting tools
Structured approach to software design, testing, and documentation.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Experience managing projects, electrical standards, and system compliance.
