Are you an experienced Contracts Manager with a background in structural steel looking for your next challenge? Our client, a highly respected and established steel fabrication business based in Peterborough, is seeking a Structural Steel Contracts Manager to join their growing commercial team. With nearly 25 years of industry expertise, they have built a reputation as one of the region's leading specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of secondary steelwork, delivering high-quality structural steel and sheet metal solutions across a variety of sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to take ownership of projects from tender stage through to completion, playing a key role in the continued success and growth of the business.
The Role
As Structural Steel Contracts Manager, you will be responsible for managing multiple projects from initial enquiry through to final account, ensuring successful delivery on time, within budget and to the highest standards. Duties will include:
- Preparing and managing tender enquiries in a structured and transferable format
- Attending pre-contract, contract and design meetings following project award
- Managing the day‑to‑day delivery of projects, including labour, subcontractors and plant logistics
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule and within budget
- Monitoring and managing project scope, costs and programme changes
- Maintaining and updating contract documentation and records
- Producing monthly applications and contract updates for the Finance Director
- Preparing detailed proposals and commercial documentation for clients
- Managing bills of quantities, valuations, cost estimates, final accounts and commercial reporting
- Maintaining project documentation, estimate logs and cost databases
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
About You
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a Contracts Management or similar role within the structural steel or construction industry
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and extract pricing information
- Experience managing projects from tender through to completion
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- The ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and MS Project
- An understanding of project controls, contract management and commercial reporting
