I'm working with a progressive international law firm that is investing heavily in its Retail & Consumer (R&C) sector. With a strong portfolio of big-brand clients and a rapidly expanding market footprint, the firm is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to help drive the next phase of its growth.
Working closely with senior sector leaders and partners, you'll play a central role in setting and delivering sector strategy, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring momentum across key UK and international markets. This is a hands-on role where you'll collaborate across marketing, communications, bids and aligned sectors to shape commercially focused BD activity and support the firm's wider expansion plans.
Key Responsibilities- Lead on sector planning, helping shape the international strategy and drafting the UK country plan, then taking responsibility for delivery.
- Drive pipeline development and support new client wins, working alongside bids and new business teams.
- Strengthen existing client relationships through cross-selling, internationalisation and improved client mix.
- Raise the sector's profile in high-growth market segments and manage BD activity aligned to emerging market developments.
- Work with marketing and service line teams to shape legal solutions that reflect client and market needs.
- Build collaborative relationships across sectors, particularly where overlaps support new opportunities (e.g., technology, media and communications).
- Lead internal sector communications and engagement to support alignment, momentum and effective coordination.
You’ll bring strong relationship-building skills, commercial judgement and a track record of delivering growth in a professional services environment. You’ll be comfortable leading initiatives, navigating complex stakeholders and using market insight to shape plans and recommendations. The ability to work collaboratively and adopt a solutions-focused approach is essential.
