An established global financial technology firm is seeking an experienced Team Lead – Linux Infrastructure Engineer to oversee a distributed team supporting critical trading environments. This is a leadership role suited to someone who enjoys staying close to the technology, combining team management with hands-on technical involvement. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of a complex, high-availability infrastructure, while driving continuous improvements across tooling, processes, and team capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of a globally distributed support function operating on a follow-the-sun model
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of infrastructure support engineers across multiple regions
- Ensure the resilience and uptime of trading systems and associated platforms
- Define and enhance operational frameworks, standards, and service levels
- Partner with engineering teams to drive automation, improve tooling, and reduce manual effort
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions
- Act as a senior escalation point and lead response efforts during major incidents and outages
- Remain hands-on with complex technical troubleshooting when required
Requirements
- Strong background in Linux/Unix system administration (enterprise environments preferred)
- Proven experience leading or managing infrastructure or technical support teams
- Good understanding of modern infrastructure practices, including automation, CI/CD, and observability
- Hands-on experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Scripting skills in Python or other language
- Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, multicast, packet analysis)
- Exposure to storage technologies (e.g., NFS; additional experience is a plus)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise under pressure
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
