Job Description

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for an experienced business development professional to take on a dual-focused, newly created role within a well-regarded London law firm. Split broadly equally between leading an alumni programme and providing dedicated business development support to a portfolio of practice groups, this position offers real ownership, strategic influence, and the chance to make a measurable commercial contribution from day one.

You'll be joining a specialist Marketing and Business Development team that spans BD, CRM, digital, design, events, internal communications, and PR. Reporting to the Head of Business Development, you'll work closely with partners and senior stakeholders across the firm, particularly within practices covering Employment, Financial Services and Products, Pensions, and Insurance.

What you'll be doing:

Alumni Programme

  • Taking the lead on developing and delivering the alumni strategy, building on existing foundations to realise its full potential
  • Strengthening relationships with a network of more than 700 former lawyers and business services professionals
  • Improving alumni data quality, segmentation, and reporting processes
  • Identifying and nurturing priority alumni relationships to support referrals, introductions, advocacy, and recruitment
  • Planning and delivering alumni communications, events, and engagement activity
  • Measuring and reporting on the effectiveness of the programme

Business Development

  • Acting as the primary BD contact for a defined portfolio of smaller practice groups, providing consistent, structured support
  • Coordinating key BD activity including directories, pitches, client targeting, events, and thought leadership
  • Helping supported practices connect to firmwide initiatives and campaigns
  • Spotting collaboration and cross-selling opportunities across the firm
  • Facilitating knowledge-sharing and best practice across the practices you support
  • Tracking progress and reporting against agreed objectives

What we're looking for

  • At least five years' business development experience within a legal or professional services environment
  • Demonstrable experience of working with and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Strong commercial awareness and proven BD planning skills
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
  • Solid organisational and project management ability
  • A commercially minded approach with a focus on outcomes and results
  • Someone credible, proactive, collaborative, and adaptable
