I am delighted to be partnering with an exceptional UK-headquartered law firm in their search for a Billing Manager to join their Birmingham office. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Billing or Revenue Manager who is looking for a new challenge within legal finance.
Responsibilities:
- Line manage the billing team, setting clear expectations, priorities, and performance standards
- Drive continuous improvement across billing and working capital processes to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and increase efficiency
- Identify and remove inefficient workflows, inappropriate escalations, and avoidable duplication across billing activities
- Expand and enhance centralised billing models to improve consistency and reduce administrative burden on fee earners
- Support system enhancements and transitions, including automation and e-billing platforms, to improve control, reporting, and scalability
- Ensure billing systems are appropriately configured, monitored, and controlled to enable timely, compliant billing
- Own delivery against monthly and annual billing targets, proactively driving activity to support the firm's revenue and cash objectives
- Actively identify billing opportunities by working closely with partners, fee earners, finance, and operational teams
- Bring billing forward wherever possible, managing cyclical and complex billing arrangements in line with commercial priorities
- Serve as the primary escalation point for billing challenges, disputes, and delays, applying sound commercial judgement and financial control
- Oversee the firm's WIP position, focusing on reducing lock-up, improving ageing profiles, and strengthening working capital outcomes
- Partner with Credit Control to lead regular WIP and working capital reviews with senior stakeholders across the business
- Strengthen WIP valuation processes through improved controls, automation initiatives, and close collaboration with finance and systems teams
- Influence and challenge partners and fee earners to meet billing, WIP, and financial obligations, acting as a trusted advisor on best practice
Experience needed:
- Demonstrates strong financial and commercial judgement, with a particular focus on billing performance and WIP control
- Confident influencing a wide range of stakeholders and building effective, trusted working relationships
- Experience in a Billing/Revenue management role in a law firm
- Thrives in a fast-paced, target-driven environment, showing resilience and tenacity under pressure
- Brings a continuous improvement mindset, balancing attention to detail with a focus on efficiency and outcomes
- Able to lead and drive change through influence, credibility, and collaboration rather than formal authority
